This morning when I was on my way to Unimas, I listened to Hitz.fm's morning crew (well, I listened to them every morning actually). As usual, I was stuck in jam at the BDC area, near a Chung Hua school. Every morning, I never fail to be a part in the crawl. Tsk. Anyways, Elly and I were listening to the morning crew program and this morning they talked about direct translation from Malay language to English or vice versa as today is the first day of PMR for all the Form 3 students all over Malaysia and it so happens that their first paper for the week is Malay language. So, they (as in JJ and Ean) talked about funny direct translations that they had come across; they also invited some listeners to call in and share their experience on funny direct translation.
There's this one lady called in and told JJ and Ean that she came across this when using Google translate. She typed on the name Ramlah Ram (for those of you who doesn't know who is Ramlah Ram, she is one of Malaysian celebrity who was very famous at the eighties )
and the translation came out as John Cena. If you were wondering which John Cena, and the John Cena that came straight to your mind is the wrestler, you are right. RAMLAH RAM when it is Google translated it became JOHN CENA!
AS IN THIS JOHN CENA!
Elly and I couldn't help it anymore but to LOL-ed out loud. Nang perey eh! I mean, how on earth a female singer can turn to a wrestler? The heck? And if any of you guys don't believe what I said, check this picture out.
Zoom in if you would like to see it CLEARER!
And the same woman also told that if you put the name of Ziana Zain (another Malaysian celebrity) on Google translate, it came out as Jonas Brothers. JONAS BROTHERS people! How on earth Ziana Zain, a woman with a very high range in voice
Recent photo of Ziana Zain. Photo courtesy of Google.
Be mistaken to these guys
COME ON!
Google translate, you nuts izit? And until now, how on Earth those names when translated it gave hilarious answers, it still remains a mystery. But nevertheless, it was fun listening to those direct translation jokes and talks. It is not that I want to laugh at the person or people who did funny translations, but it is just so hilarious that I couldn't help to laugh. There is a difference in that okay?
So, anyone of you ever encountered or seen funny direct translations? :p
Love,
Marcy.
Xoxo.
